Our summer grading event was a thrilling success, with 46 enthusiastic students participating across multiple sessions. These students showcased their skills and dedication in front of supportive friends and family.
Our participating Satellite Clubs included:
Seaton House School
The Beacon School
Banstead Prep School
Chinthurst School
Reigate Grammar School
This grading was more than an event; it was a meaningful opportunity for students to display the results of their hard work and commitment.
The Grading Experience
Gradings mark significant milestones in the journey of any student. For many, it is the culmination of weeks or even months of intense practice and preparation. This summer, we unfortunately saw that not everyone was successful on their first attempt, as eight students did not pass the grading.
Facing disappointment is part of the journey. It's natural to feel disheartened; however, as an international instructor and examiner, I maintain a fair grading standard that reflects ITF examiners globally. This commitment ensures that every student is evaluated equitably, regardless of where they train, making the process transparent and trustworthy.
Learning from Setbacks
When a student does not achieve the grade they were aiming for we hope they have witnessed the resilience of their peers. Through their journeys, they can see that perseverance leads to overcoming challenges.
For instance, students who previously struggled but continued training not only passed their next attempt but also improved their skills tremendously. Learning to cope with setbacks is a crucial life lesson. Each challenge a student faces builds essential coping skills that will prepare them for future obstacles—not just in martial arts, but in life as well.
Celebrating Successes

On a brighter note, I am thrilled to share that the majority of our students surpassed the required standards for promotion. The growth and potential in the class were inspiring, demonstrating the dedication each student has shown.
Among our participants, many are nearing their 1st Degree Black Belt, and we anticipate welcoming around eight new Black Belts into our community within the next 18 months. This potential fills us with pride, as it highlights our students' hard work and determination to excel.
Moving Forward
Whether they celebrated achievements or faced challenges, these experiences better prepare our students for their next chapters in TaeKwon-Do. Remember, setbacks can be stepping stones towards greater comebacks! Here's to the next grading and all the rewarding accomplishments to come.
