Competitions appear to be simplest method to objectively evaluate performance, even though competitions are a small part of the TaeKwon-Do curriculum. I don't force competitions on students but I look back at my time as a colourbelt and sometimes think I "should have done more", so for that reason since opening my own school in 2009 I have encouraged participation without expectation.

There is the possibility if a school or student solely focusses on competition training that the important gel between the different events of TKD is lost, for that reason I try to teach all aspects of TaeKwon-Do by making important links between Patterns : Competition sparring : Power event : Special Technique.
Celebrate Achievement

However, with that being said, competitors develop themselves into excellent athletic examples of themselves and they set goals, work towards during and outside of class, attend extra training sessions, seek out expertise if they need it and generally progress faster than those that don't compete.
For this reason, I am proud to celebrate all our competitors from 2025 and highlight the best three.
Summary
5 Competitions
15 Competitors (I am sure we can increase this number in 2026)
11 Golds
13 Silvers
8 Bronzes

The Points System
I give points so that we can objectively calculate the highest achieving competitor, however there are many other ways to measure achievement.
Attendance = 1 point
Bronze = 1 point
Silver = 2 points
Gold = 3 points
The Top 3 are...
The top three highest medal winning students are:
1st Place: Anna with 20 Points, 3 Golds; 3 Silvers; 1 Bronze
2nd Place: Ellie with 13 Points, 3 Golds; 1 Silver
3rd Place: Hollie with 12 Points, 3 Silvers; 2 Bronzes

IMPORTANT NOTABLE MENTIONS
Dil, for being the most successful adult colourbelt member of Banstead TKD, entering only 1 competition but winning TWO golds and 1 Bronze. Excellent work.

Diora went to university last year and continued her TaeKwon-Do training and competed several times in the BUCS competitions:

Autumn BUCS: bronze ITF sparring, Bronze ITF patterns
Winter BUCS: Silver in ITF sparring, Bronze ITF patterns
Spring BUCS: Silver ITF sparring, Silver in ITF patterns
So if we gave Diora some points as per our system she would get:
1 point for each comp entered = 3 Points
1 point for each Bronze = 3 points
2 points for each Silver = 6 points
Total Diora points = 12 points which puts her joint 3rd with Hollie
CONGRULATIONS
Well done to every competitor throughout the year.
Onwards and upwards. Looking forward to 2026
